Xfinity and Comcast call forwarding: every option, step by step
By The NoBeep team at Duck & Shark. Checked against the providers' own help pages on . Providers change these codes; if a step fails, their support line can turn forwarding on for you.
Short answer
On Xfinity Voice (home phone), dial *72 to forward all calls and *73 to stop; Advanced Call Forwarding in Voice Settings rings up to four other numbers after 2 to 9 rings. On Xfinity Mobile, dial *71 plus the number to forward unanswered calls, *72 for all calls, *73 to stop. Comcast Business VoiceEdge uses *72/*73, *90/*91 busy and *92/*93 no answer.
Xfinity and Comcast run three different phone services, and each one forwards calls differently. Home phone (Xfinity Voice) does most of its forwarding in the Voice Settings page. Xfinity Mobile uses star codes dialed from the phone itself. Comcast Business VoiceEdge has the most options, with a full set of star codes and a web portal.
Find your service below. Each option shows how to turn it on and off, how many rings you get, and what Xfinity or Comcast says about limits and cost.
Xfinity Voice (home phone)
Three kinds of forwarding: Basic (all calls to one number), Selective (calls from up to 25 trusted numbers) and Advanced (your home phone plus up to four other numbers ring together). Basic and Selective work from the home phone with star codes; Advanced is online or in the Xfinity app only.
| Option | On | Off |
|---|---|---|
| Forward all calls (Basic) | *72 | *73 |
| Forward calls from certain numbers (Selective) | *63 | *83 |
| Ring more than one phone (Advanced Call Forwarding) | See steps | See steps |
| Forward when busy or unanswered | Not offered | n/a |
Forward all calls (Basic)
Every incoming call goes straight to one other number.
Turn it on: *72
- From your Xfinity home phone, dial *72 and enter the 10-digit number you want calls sent to.
- Or online: Voice Settings, Call Forwarding, enter the 10-digit number under Basic, then click Update.
Turn it off: *73
- Dial *73 from the home phone, or open the same Basic setting online and click Deactivate.
- One destination number.
- Accounts on a seasonal hold can't turn on Basic forwarding from the home phone.
Cost: Included on the Premier, Unlimited and Unlimited Select calling plans. Xfinity says it isn't available on Unlimited Saver; its pages disagree about Local With More, so check with Xfinity if you're on that plan.

Forward calls from certain numbers (Selective)
Calls from a list of trusted numbers go to one other number; everyone else rings the home phone as normal.
Turn it on: *63
- Dial *63 from the home phone and follow the prompts.
- Or online: Voice Settings, Call Forwarding, add the forward-to number, then add each trusted 10-digit number with Add to List.
Turn it off: *83
- Dial *83, or online click Remove Selected until the list is empty.
- Up to 25 trusted numbers, all sent to one destination.
- Anonymous Call Rejection takes priority for callers who hide their number.
Cost: Same plan rules as Basic forwarding.

Ring more than one phone (Advanced Call Forwarding)
Your home phone and up to four other numbers ring at the same time, with the number of rings set for each line. This is Xfinity's version of simultaneous ring.
Turn it on
- Sign in at Voice Settings (connect.xfinity.com/voice/settings) with a Primary or Manager Xfinity ID, or in the Xfinity app go to Services, Home Phone, View Xfinity Voice features, the settings wheel, then Call Forwarding.
- Under Advanced Call Forwarding, enter a 10-digit number and click Add. Repeat for up to four numbers.
- Choose how many rings each line gets before the call moves on.
Turn it off
- In the same place, click the trash icon next to each number. The home number can't be removed.
Ring count: 2 to 9 rings, set per line in the Rings drop-down. A change can take up to 24 hours to apply.
- Five numbers in total: the home phone plus four others. The home phone stays first in the list.
- Phones that are off or offline send the call to the home phone's voicemail.
- No star code: online or in the app only.
Cost: Included on Premier, Unlimited and Unlimited Select.

Forward when busy or unanswered
Send calls elsewhere only when you're on the phone or don't pick up.
- Xfinity's home phone help pages don't list a busy or no-answer forwarding code. The closest documented option is Advanced Call Forwarding with a ring count, which rings your other numbers alongside the home phone rather than after it.

Managing forwarding online or in the Xfinity app
- Web: connect.xfinity.com/voice/settings, then Call Forwarding. You need a Primary or Manager Xfinity ID.
- App: Services, Home Phone, View Xfinity Voice features, the settings wheel, the menu, then Call Forwarding.
- Other people on the account need the Primary user to turn on Allow Access to Voice Features (customer.xfinity.com/settings).

Good to know
- Readable Voicemail (transcripts in the Voice tab or by email) is part of the Voicemail/Readable Voicemail feature on Premier, Unlimited and Unlimited Select; messages can be up to 3 minutes. On Unlimited Saver and Local With More, plain voicemail is $3.95 a month extra.
- Xfinity's pages don't say whether forwarded calls carry long-distance or international charges, or whether caller ID passes through. Ask Xfinity before forwarding to a number outside the US.
Xfinity Mobile
Star codes dialed from the Xfinity Mobile phone itself. Two choices: forward every call, or let the phone ring first and forward only the calls you don't answer.
| Option | On | Off |
|---|---|---|
| Forward unanswered calls | *71 + number | *73 |
| Forward all calls | *72 + number | *73 |
Forward unanswered calls
Your phone rings first; if you don't pick up, the call goes to the other number.
Turn it on: *71 + number
- On your Xfinity Mobile phone, dial *71 followed by the full 10-digit number, with no spaces.
- Press Call, wait for the confirmation, then hang up.
- Test it: call your mobile number from another phone and let it ring.
Turn it off: *73
- Dial *73 on the Xfinity Mobile phone and press Call.
Ring count: Xfinity doesn't publish the number of rings before an unanswered call forwards, or a way to change it.
- US numbers only (toll-free numbers are fine). No international forwarding.
- While forwarding is on, unanswered calls don't go to your Xfinity mobile voicemail. Texts still arrive on the phone.
Cost: Included at no additional cost on Unlimited and By the Gig plans.
Forward all calls
Every call goes straight to the other number without ringing your phone.
Turn it on: *72 + number
- Dial *72 followed by the 10-digit number, press Call, wait for the confirmation, then hang up.
Turn it off: *73
- Dial *73 on the Xfinity Mobile phone.
- US numbers only.
Cost: No additional cost.
Good to know
- For security, Xfinity Mobile forwarding can only be turned on from the Xfinity Mobile phone itself, not from another phone or a computer. If the phone is lost or broken, put a new device on the line first.
- Callers getting a busy signal? Xfinity's fix is to dial *73 to clear forwarding, then set it again.
- Xfinity's page covers star codes only; it doesn't describe an iPhone or Android settings route.
Comcast Business VoiceEdge and Business Voice
Comcast Business sells two phone products. Business VoiceEdge (and VoiceEdge Select) is a hosted phone system with a full set of star codes and a web portal. Business Voice is a landline service where most forwarding features are switched on by Comcast on request.
| Option | On | Off |
|---|---|---|
| Forward all calls (VoiceEdge) | *72 | *73 |
| Forward when busy (VoiceEdge) | *90 | *91 |
| Forward when unanswered (VoiceEdge) | *92 | *93 |
| Forward when unreachable (VoiceEdge) | *94 | *95 |
| Forward certain calls (Selective, VoiceEdge) | #76 | #77 |
| Ring numbers in order (Sequential Ring, VoiceEdge) | See steps | See steps |
| Forwarding on Business Voice lines | See steps | n/a |
Forward all calls (VoiceEdge)
Every incoming call goes to another number.
Turn it on: *72
- Lift the handset, dial *72, enter the forwarding number when prompted, and hang up after the confirmation tone.
Turn it off: *73
- Dial *73.
- Check status with *21* (with the trailing star). Careful: *21 without it sends all calls to voicemail (turn that off with #21).
- Be Anywhere doesn't work while forward-all is on.

Forward when busy (VoiceEdge)
Calls go to another number when you're on the line or Do Not Disturb is on.
Turn it on: *90
- Dial *90, enter the forwarding number when prompted, then hang up after the tone.
Turn it off: *91
- Dial *91.
- Check status with *67*. To send busy calls to voicemail instead: *40 on, #40 off.

Forward when unanswered (VoiceEdge)
Calls go to another number when nobody answers within the set number of rings.
Turn it on: *92
- Dial *92, then enter the forwarding number when prompted (Polycom phones) or right after the code (Panasonic phones). Hang up after the tone.
Turn it off: *93
- Dial *93.
Ring count: Change the number of rings with the No Answer Timer, *610. Comcast doesn't publish the allowed range.
- Check status with *61*. To send unanswered calls to voicemail instead: *41 on, #41 off.

Forward when unreachable (VoiceEdge)
Calls go to a backup number during an outage, when the phone can't be reached at all.
Turn it on: *94
- Dial *94 and enter the backup number. Comcast usually sets this up during provisioning.
Turn it off: *95
- Dial *95.
- The backup number has to be allowed by your outgoing calling plan.

Forward certain calls (Selective, VoiceEdge)
Calls that match rules you set (who's calling, time of day, day of week) go to another number.
Turn it on: #76
- Dial #76, or set the rules in the VoiceEdge portal under Call Forwarding.
Turn it off: #77
- Dial #77.
- The business codes are #76 and #77, not the home phone's *63 and *83.

Ring numbers in order (Sequential Ring, VoiceEdge)
Your office phone rings first, then a 'find me' list of numbers one after another.
Turn it on
- In the VoiceEdge portal go to Advanced Settings, Sequential Ring.
- Set the rings before it moves on, enter the numbers in order, and set the rings for each.
- Optional: turn on Answer Confirmation Required so voicemail on a cell phone can't grab the call.
Turn it off
- Uncheck Ring Office Phone First and the busy-continue box, then Save Changes.
- If the last number doesn't answer, the caller goes to voicemail.

Forwarding on Business Voice lines
The non-VoiceEdge landline service. Which forwarding you get depends on the line type.
Turn it on
- Basic lines include only Call Forwarding Not Reachable.
- Voice Mobility and Full Featured lines can have forward all, busy, no answer, not reachable and selective forwarding, plus sequential and simultaneous ring.
- These stay off until you call Comcast Business at 800-391-3000 to turn them on. Some account managers can switch them in My Account or the Comcast Business App.
- Comcast's service terms list continuous or extensive call forwarding as a prohibited use.
- Comcast doesn't publish star codes for Business Voice lines.

Managing forwarding online
- Business VoiceEdge: the VoiceEdge portal (business.comcast.com/bveportal), Feature Settings, Call Forwarding. Enter the number, switch it on, Save. There's an optional ring reminder when a call is forwarded.
- VoiceEdge Select: My Account. Forward-all is on the main VoiceEdge Select page; busy, no answer, not reachable and selective are under the additional settings.
- Away from the office on VoiceEdge: call your voicemail box, choose Call Forwarding from the main menu, and follow the prompts. *62 connects you to the Voice Portal by phone.

Good to know
- *80 (Diversion Inhibitor) keeps forwarded business calls from landing in a cell phone's voicemail. Comcast notes it doesn't work with every carrier.
- Comcast doesn't publish prices for forwarding, Simultaneous Ring or Readable Voicemail. Readable Voicemail is a paid add-on at checkout on Voice Mobility.
When forwarding doesn't work
- Callers hear a busy signal (Xfinity Mobile). Dial *73 to clear forwarding, then set it again with *71 or *72 plus the number.
- Forwarding won't turn on from the home phone (Xfinity Voice). Seasonal-hold accounts can't use the star code; set it in Voice Settings online. Check your calling plan includes forwarding.
- A Business Voice feature does nothing when dialed. Business Voice features stay off until Comcast enables them: call 800-391-3000.
- All calls suddenly go to voicemail (VoiceEdge). *21 sends every call to voicemail. Dial #21 to undo it. The status check is *21* with the trailing star.
Why people forward calls, and where to send them
- You're on a job or with a customer. Forward when unanswered so your phone still rings first and only the calls you miss go somewhere useful.
- After hours, weekends and holidays. Send calls to a line that can take the details instead of a full mailbox.
- One number, more than one phone. Simultaneous ring or forward-all moves calls from a desk line to a cell, or from a cell to a team.
- Traveling or between phones. Forward all calls to wherever you are while the main phone is off or out of service.
- Keeping your number while you change systems. Forwarding keeps your published number working while you try a new phone service, without moving the number.
- On Xfinity Mobile, forwarding unanswered calls skips your mobile voicemail, so wherever you forward to becomes your voicemail. Make it one that takes a full message.
If you forward calls you can't answer, one of the best places to send them is an interactive voicemail such as NoBeep. A plain voicemail box records whoever is willing to talk to a beep; an interactive voicemail talks with the caller, gets their name, number and reason, answers common questions, and sends you a finished note.
Basic, visual and interactive voicemail
Interactive voicemail is a phone service for missed calls that has a short, useful conversation with the caller, captures the reason for the call and the details needed to follow up, and gives the business a clear message afterward.
| Type | What it does | What the caller gets | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic voicemail | A greeting, a beep and a recording you play back later. | Talks to a beep. Many hang up instead. | The voicemail box that comes with most phone lines, home, mobile and business |
| Visual voicemail | The same recording, shown as a list you can play in any order, often with a transcript. | Same beep as basic voicemail. It helps the person reading messages, not the caller. | iPhone Visual Voicemail; Google Voice voicemail transcripts; YouMail |
| Interactive voicemail | Answers the missed call, has a short conversation, gets the details and answers common questions, then sends a finished note. | Gets a response instead of a beep, and leaves a complete message. | NoBeep; All Hours AI; AnswerLive's interactive voicemail option |
